The Sample Environment Support Service gives general support for experiments under non-ambient conditions. This includes high and low temperatures, automatic sample changers, high pressures and magnetic fields. The support consists of designing, mounting and testing new dedicated equipment, maintaining and modifying existing equipment, and helping the scientists with procurement and operation of state of the art sample environment apparatus. In addition the service runs a loan pool of equipment.

The sample environment loan pool can supply a large range of apparatus for experiments under non-ambient conditions, for example:

  • Microtomography furnace, temperature range ambient to 1000 deg C
  • Gas blower furnace, Tmax 1000 deg C
  • Standard furnace tables including Eurotherm temperature controller, Delta power supply and thermostat water bath for cooling
  • Oxford Instruments Crystream 700 (Tmin 80K, T max 400K )
  • Linkam box ( 80 K to 400 K )
  • Mini cryostat ( Tmin 2 K)

For temperature controlled cells and robotic sample changers contact Yves Watier (23.95).

The pool can supply diamond anvil high pressure cells with manual or automated pneumatic pressure drive systems: contact J. Jacobs (2199)
